About the event
🌟 Align: The Mind Body Connection
🧠 Emotions and physical health share an intricate link, and this is exactly what we aim to explore in our next virtual workshop! Join us on Tuesday, August 29th, at 7 pm EST, as we delve into 'Align: The Mind Body Connection' hosted by South Asian Health Psychologist, Sharline Shah, from Open Minds (@openminds_om).
Expressing emotional stress can be challenging, particularly due to the stigma of doing so within the South Asian community. This leads us to hold onto stress without expressing or acknowledging it- sometimes causing it to manifest physically. This phenomenon is known as somatization, where psychological distress presents as physical symptoms like fatigue, pain, and gastrointestinal issues. For more information on this topic, check out our previous post on Instagram titled: Why South Asians are More Likely to Experience Physical Symptoms from Untreated Mental Health Issues. 🎉 This workshop marks the third in our 'Engage for Change' series. In our first workshop, we explored the duality of being South Asian and American, while the second workshop focused on breaking free from the "log kya kehenge" mentality and discovering our true selves. Now, in our third workshop, we turn inward, focusing on our minds and bodies. We are thrilled to share important insights and practical tools during this session!
